Vivian is a graphic novel developed by the Te Ārai Palliative Care and End of Life Research Group that translates academic research into a visual narrative. The story follows a fictional character, constructed from real research insights, to explore how gender shapes experiences of care, particularly at the end of life. By using illustration and storytelling instead of traditional academic writing, the project makes complex social and healthcare issues more accessible, engaging, and emotionally resonant. It functions both as a research output and as a teaching tool, highlighting the role of design in communicating and shaping knowledge.
