• Nanipā’s Choice is a fictional pūrākau set on the east coast of the upper North Island of Aotearoa New Zealand, created to raise awareness of assisted dying and the End of Life Choice Act (2019) within Māori communities. Written by Tess Moeke-Maxwell, the story centres on the experience of whānau navigating end-of-life decisions, reflecting the emotional, cultural, and relational complexity of this process. Constructed through staged studio photography with whānau, the imagery was carefully composed and assembled in Photoshop. Through this process, the work bridges research and design, creating an intimate and culturally grounded narrative that brings visibility to a topic often underrepresented in both public discourse and visual communication.
